Keith Johnson

Hi and welcome to my website.

I am an artist and photographer living in the North East of England.

I am passionate about photography and I never cease to be thrilled by the many journeys into the unknown, both literal and creative, that photography and artwork affords me.

To me creating an image is more than just capturing a moment, it is a tool to convey a sense of place, an emotion and atmosphere.

Some of the key things that inspire and inform my creativity are the history and culture of the region in which I live and issues of conscience and injustice.

I started my working life in engineering and you will come across many references in my galleries. My eye is always drawn to shape and structure whether it be architectural or even a vintage steam engine.

I am open to what is around me and enjoy the challenge of creating an image. I hope you enjoy my work and please feel free to drop me a line if you have the time.

Thank you for visiting

Kind regards

Keith

A Year In Marketing

Grainger Market, Newcastle Upon Tyne 2016

Over the years the Grainger Market in Newcastle City Centre has been the subject of many books, films and documentaries, many have emphasised its history and the past.

Throughout 2016 I have been visiting and photographing this historic indoor market in an attempt to capture a sense of the people, both traders and visitors, who work and shop in this fascinating venue today.

I thought I would preview a small part of the project  with the title 'Take a Seat' This seat is tucked away in the corner of  the large Arcade pictured in the painting above the subjects.

It is my hope to produce a body of work for a book and exhibition in 2017.

I would like to thank:

Newcastle City Council - Markets Communities Directorate

Grainger Market Inspectors and Staff

Grainger Market Traders

The customers and visitors who shared their time with me
